Your Brain Is More Capable Than You Think. Neurofeedback Helps You Get There.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, drug-free form of brain training that works with your brain's own capacity to learn and reorganize itself. Using real-time EEG monitoring, the brain receives feedback about its own activity and gradually learns to shift toward more efficient, balanced patterns. Over time, those patterns support meaningful improvements in focus, mood, sleep, stress resilience, and more.

What makes the difference is not just the technology. Austin Biofeedback was founded in 1981, and our four licensed clinicians bring a combined 125 years of neurofeedback and biofeedback experience to every client relationship. We have worked with thousands of brains. We know what we are looking at, and we know what to do with it.

We Know How to Work With That

The brain has a remarkable capacity to reorganize itself throughout life. Scientists call this neuroplasticity, and it is the foundation of everything neurofeedback does. Neurofeedback works directly with that capacity, training the patterns underneath your symptoms toward something more balanced. Not masking what is happening. Changing it. Our clinicians have been doing exactly this since 1981.

You Are More Than A Brain Map

Before any equipment is involved, one of our licensed clinicians sits down with you. We want to understand your history, your goals, and what you have already tried. That conversation shapes everything, including whether a QEEG brain map is the right next step and what we are looking for when we read it. Some clinics start with the map. We start with you.

Built From Scratch, Guided by Experience

Your training plan is written by a licensed clinician who has personally reviewed your brain map data and knows your full clinical history. No automated reports. No computer-generated protocols. If HRV training, biofeedback, or other modalities would strengthen your outcomes, they are already part of the plan. That level of clinical involvement is not standard everywhere. At Austin Biofeedback, it always has been.

HUMAN-DESIGNED. NOT ALGORITHM-GENERATED.

Some newer clinics run your brain map through a system that automatically generates a report and delivers ready-made protocols. At our clinic, your plan is built by experienced clinicians, not software algorithms. We review your data, integrating your clinical history and goals, and design your training plan by hand. An experienced clinician sees patterns, context, and nuance that software simply cannot.

MULTIPLE SYSTEMS. ONE PERSONALIZED PLAN.

Most neurofeedback centers work with a single system and fit every client into it. We have multiple advanced neurofeedback technologies including surface neurofeedback, swLORETA Z-score training, low energy neurofeedback, and more. This means we can select the approach or combination of approaches that best fits your brain and your goals. And as your brain responds and changes, we can adapt, because we are not locked into one method.

LICENSED THERAPISTS. BOARD-CERTIFIED CLINICIANS.

Our clinical team consists of licensed professional counselors, and BCIA board-certified therapists, the highest credential in our field. With over 125 years of combined clinical experience, our team understands not just how to operate neurofeedback equipment, but the brain science, clinical variables, and individual factors that determine whether treatment actually works. That depth of knowledge shapes every decision we make.

Why Our Approach is Different

We do not follow a fixed system. We design the system around you.

The Neurofeedback Systems We Use

Having access to multiple technologies isn't just a feature, it's what makes genuinely personalized care possible.

q-EEG Guided Neurofeedback

Quantitative EEG brain mapping is the foundation of our clinical approach. It gives us a detailed picture of your brain's electrical activity across multiple networks, identifying patterns that relate to focus, mood, sleep, anxiety, trauma, and cognitive performance.

Our QEEG process goes beyond simply recording brainwave data. Every map is manually artifacted for accuracy, then personally analyzed by a clinician with decades of experience. We don't hand your data to a system and accept what comes out — we read it ourselves, integrating your history, your goals, and our clinical judgment to design a training plan that is genuinely yours. The difference between data and understanding is a clinician who knows what to look for.

Surface Neurofeedback

Surface neurofeedback is a non-invasive method that uses sensors placed on the scalp to monitor brainwave activity in real time. During sessions, the brain receives feedback that gradually guides it toward more efficient, balanced patterns. This approach is commonly used for attention difficulties, anxiety, mood regulation, trauma-related stress, sleep challenges, and peak performance.

swLORETA Z-Score Neurofeedback

swLORETA is a sophisticated, systems-based neurofeedback approach that uses a full 19-sensor array to monitor brain activity across entire networks simultaneously, and comparing it in real time against a highly respected normative database. Rather than targeting individual sites, it trains the brain at the level of functional systems, allowing for more precise and targeted work.

Low Energy Neurofeedback

Low Energy Neurofeedback, also referred to as microcurrent neurofeedback, is a gentle, largely passive form of brainwave biofeedback. Rather than requiring active participation, it uses a very low energy signal that reflects the brain's own dominant EEG frequency, helping the brain recognize and shift inefficient patterns. Sessions are often experienced as a subtle but meaningful reset.

Conditions and Goals We Work With

Neurofeedback and biofeedback support a wide range of conditions and performance goals. Every client begins with a clinical intake to determine the right approach for their specific situation.

GOOD TO KNOW

What to Know Before You Ask

Most people have the same questions when they first hear about neurofeedback. Here are the honest answers.

Non-invasive and completely comfortable

Sensors rest on the scalp and read electrical activity. Nothing goes into the body. No shocks, no discomfort, nothing to be nervous about.

Most clients find sessions deeply relaxing

You sit in a comfortable recliner and watch a screen while your brain does the work. Every session runs on a protocol personally designed by your licensed clinician.

We do not accept insurance, and here is why

Most insurance companies tell clients they cover neurofeedback and then deny the claims. We are transparent about fees upfront and offer a flexible payment option.

Financing is available

For clients who qualify, we offer a financing plan through Discover with no to low interest options. Ask us about it when you call.

Sessions are a full 50-minute therapy hour

Unlike some clinics that offer 30-minute sessions, every appointment is a complete clinical hour with a licensed clinician overseeing your care.

Neurofeedback works alongside other therapies

Many clients also work with EMDR or talk therapy. Neurofeedback addresses a layer other approaches do not directly reach, and the two often make each other more effective.

FSA and HSA cards are welcome

Neurofeedback at Austin Biofeedback is an eligible FSA and HSA expense. One of the most underused ways to make brain training accessible.

Not every client needs a Q-EEG to get started

The clinical intake comes first. We will tell you honestly whether a brain map is the right next step, and if it is not, we will tell you that too.

This is What a Neurofeedback Session is Like

One of the most common things we hear from new clients is that they did not know what to expect. Here is exactly what a session at Austin Biofeedback and EEG Neurofeedback Center looks like.

You will start by sitting down with your clinician for a few minutes to talk through how you have been feeling and any changes you have noticed. That conversation shapes how we train.

Then the sensors go on. Small electrodes are placed on specific locations on your scalp using a water-based gel. Nothing pierces the skin. Nothing causes discomfort. Most clients say it feels like nothing at all. Some clients have 1-4 sensors on the head, others wear a full 19 sensor cap like the one shown in the photo.

Once the sensors are in place, you settle into a comfortable recliner and the screen in front of you comes to life. The feedback responds to your brain's activity in real time. You are not doing anything effortful. Your brain is doing the work.

Every session is designed, overseen, and adjusted by a licensed therapist. Your protocol is built around your specific brain map and clinical history. The equipment you sit with is never running a generic program or a software-generated list of training protocols. It is running a program built specifically for your brain by someone who knows you and your history and goals.

Most clients leave feeling calm, clear, and sometimes a little surprised by how relaxed they are.

For over 45 years, Austin Biofeedback has been where art and science meet — and where real change begins.

Is Neurofeedback Right For You?

The best way to find out is to start with a conversation. Your first step is a 50-minute clinical intake with your clinician, where we cover your history, your goals, and what you're hoping to change.
